You have spent all of this time and money, its not time to cut corners. You need to get the right equiptment, tools, and the correct training procedures to ensure that your investment in your hunting buddy lasts many seasons.
Remember on those hot days with your gundog, not only should be worried about water, its time when snakes come out to warm up in the sun. Dogs have a natural curiosity for snakes, the movement, and of course snakes do have a smell. If it is a rattlesnake, then you have the strange sound into the mix. They curiosity killed the cat, when your dealing with snakes, curiosity kills.
Its a simple concept that even humans can understand. That sound of a rattle snake tells our psyche that danger is near. Of course teaching this concept can be difficult. You have to decide what kinds of snakes are you going to teach your dog? Do your research! Some techniques require using dead snakes for the smell, and using rattle snake's rattle to simulate the sound.
A word to the wise. If by chance you or your hunting dog does get bit by a snake bring the snake with you to the hospital. Crazy? Not really, with so many different types of poisonous snakes out there, your doctor or veterinarian will need to know what kind of snake if was to give you the correct antidote.
