Training Styles

Recently I had the opportunity to go to one of the best hunting lodges in the country.  The Flying B lodge located in Idaho won the Orvis 2004 lodge of the year, rightfully so.  Incredible hunting, great food and accommodations, great staff, and most important  unbelievable bird dogs.

I went with two different guides with two different training styles.  One using firm discipline when correcting a dogs behavior, the other with more of a guilt complex that the dog understood.  Both styles of course used positive feedback as the primary reward for good and correct actions.  The end result for both guides was the same, well behaved trained hunting  dogs.

Even though we were there for some of the best upland bird hunting,  I had a great time just watching the dogs work there magic.

With names like Jed, Moonshine,

Who ever believes that your hunting dog cant be your pet doesn't know what they are talking about.  Both of these guides took their dogs home with them and had them as family pets.  In fact one of the guides even showered with them.  That might be a little too far!
